BC Horizont Minsk post victory at EWBL start

MINSK, 8 December (BelTA) – BC Horizont Minsk kicked off the new season of the European Women's Basketball League (EWBL) with a 66-64 win over Piestanske Cajky on 7 December. BC Horizont Minsk won the tournament last season for the first time, BelTA has learned.

BC Horizont Minsk survived a double overtime battle at the Diplomat Arena in Slovakia's Piestany. Anastasiya Verameyenka led all scorers with 24 points. On 8 December the Belarusian champions will face the Czech Republic's ZabinyBrno that lost 75-84 to Russia's Samara on 7 December. On the final competition day, 9 December, Horizont will play Samara.

Olimpia Grodno played in the Czech Republic in late October and lost there to Zabiny Brno 53-75 and Piestanske Cajky 57-74.

Last week BC Tsmoki Minsk played well in Liepaja, Latvia, beating Liepaja/LSSS 60-49, Young Angels Kosice 74-69 and SBS Ostrava 74-71. Andrei Babvev's team secured a playoff berth.

In the first tour of the EWBL current season BC Tsmoki Minsk played in Rostov-on-Don, losing to the Russian teams: Peresvet-SFEDU (63-74) and Nika (43-83).

In the previous season's final BC Horizont defeated BC Nika 70-60 in Molodechno.

The tournament has been regularly held since the 2015/2016 season. In the final of the 2019 edition BC Tsmoki Minsk won silver losing to TTT. The 2020-2021 season was not finished due to the coronavirus pandemic.
