MINSK, 22 April (BelTA) - Polotsk State University hosted an election general meeting of the Belarusian Association of Student Sports (BASS) on 22 April, BelTA learned from the press service of the Education Ministry.
The meeting discussed the results and prospects of the development of sports in the higher education institutions. It was noted that university sport has now acquired a special role in promoting sports culture and a healthy lifestyle in the youth environment and building a talent pool for elite sport.
Aliaksandr Bahdanovich, Olympic champion in canoe, has been re-elected chairman of the Belarusian Association of Student Sports. He said his main goal is to further develop student sports in the country and improve the performance of the association.
From April 2021 to April 2025 BASS will focus on improving legal regulation in the field of physical education and sports, organizing student sports in higher education institutions; ensuring accession of BASS to the International Federation of Student Sports (FISU) and the European Association of Student Sports (EUSA); implementation of agreements with the Student Sports Union of Poland, the National Sports Student Union of Kazakhstan, the Russian Student Sports Union.
