Azarenka seeded 14th at Australian Open 2016

MINSK, 13 January (BelTA) – Belarus number one Victoria Azarenka is seeded 14th at next week's Australian Open in Melbourne. Last week the Belarusian won the Brisbane International title, her first since August 2013, to move up to the 16th spot in the WTA rankings, BelTA informs.

Victoria Azarenka won the Australian Open twice: in 2012 and 2013. The list of 32 seeded players is topped by current world number one Serena Williams of the United States, six-time Australian Open champion. World No.8 Flavia Pennetta of Italy and World No.9 Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic will not play in Melbourne due to health issues.

Apart from Victoria Azarenka, Belarus in the main draw will be represented by Olga Govortsova (72nd in the WTA rankings) and Alexandra Sasnovich (106th). A total of 128 players will make their appearance in the tournament's main draw.

The singles draw ceremony will take place in Melbourne on 15 January. The matches will be held on 18-31 January.
