Azarenka loses in Roland Garros last 16

MINSK, 7 June (BelTA) – Belarus' world number 16 Victoria Azarenka lost to Russia's world number 32 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 7-5, 3-6, 2-6 in the Roland Garros round of Last 16, BelTA has learned.

The match lasted for two hours and ten minutes. In the quarterfinal the Russian will face either world number 8 Serena Williams of the United States or Kazakhstan's world number 22 Elena Rybakina.

Victoria Azarenka solved Russia's world number 40 Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 and defeated world number 90 Clara Tauson of Denmark 7-5, 6-4. Then, the former world number one cruised past world number 24 Madison Keys of the United States 6-2, 6-2.

Belarus' world number 4 Aryna Sabalenka lost to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 4-6, 6-2, 0-6 in the round of Last 32. Aryna Sabalenka saw off Croatia's world number 144 Ana Konjuh 6-4, 6-3 in the opener and later defeated fellow Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich (World No.103) 7-5, 6-3. Aliaksandra Sasnovich fought past France's world number 307 Diane Parry 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in the opener. In the doubles opener Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk lost to the Latvian-Romanian duo of Jelena Ostapenko and Monica Niculescu 0-6, 3-6.

The second Grand Slam tournament of the season will be over in Paris on 13 June.
