MINSK, 4 May (BelTA) – Belarus lost 2-5 to Russia in the quarterfinal to complete their run at the 2021 IIHF U18 World Championship in the United States, BelTA has learned.
Trailing 0-3 in the second period, Belarus fought back to make it 2-3, but just did not have enough firepower to advance.
Matvei Michkov opened the scoring for Russia five minutes into the game. the Russians extended their advantage late in the first period playing 5-on-3.
Artyom Duda fired a rising slapper for a 3-0 lead at the start of the middle stanza.
Ilya Morozov and Fyodor Nikolayenya reduced the gap to the minimum.
Ivan Miroshnichenko and Vsevolod Gaidamak added to Russia's tally in the final period.
