MINSK, 13 July (BelTA) – The result speaks louder than words – the tensions at the southern border have been eased, Director and Editor-in-Chief of the Belarus Segodnya publishing house Dmitry Zhuk told BelTA.

“The ancient Chinese treatise On the Art of War has a very wise phrase that reads “To win one hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the acme of skill. To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill.” President Aleksandr Lukashenko showed us an example of such skill. On 2 July, after his protocol speech at a solemn rally, the head of state told the Belarusian people about an exceptionally dangerous situation at the southern border. At the same time he sent a message to the Ukrainian leadership signaling that we do not want any aggressive actions or escalation and will not participate in any. And what do we see today? After some steps were made and negotiations were held, the troops were withdrawn by both the Ukrainians and us, as the president has said today while visiting the 56th anti-aircraft missile regiment in Luninets District, Brest Oblast,” Dmitry Zhuk said.

At the same time, the editor-in-chief of the Belarus Segodnya publishing house flagged another important thing. “Despite the urgency of the moment, despite the tensions, it is still possible and necessary to come to an agreement. In fact, the worst thing that can happen is war, a hot conflict that brings to naught all the achievements of any state. Thus, preventing such war is the primary task of the president, who is a guarantor of security in line with our Constitution. And he has fulfilled this task 100%, if not 200%. This is a great example for our neighbors that shows that it is still possible to come to terms,” he said.

“The result speaks louder than words - the tensions have been lifted. And this is the most important outcome for today,” added Dmitry Zhuk. “How will events unfold going forward? I don't expect any escalation. On the contrary, there will be processes aimed at reducing tensions,” he added.
