Yermoshina recalls Lukashenko's inauguration ceremonies: ‘It was a special feeling’

MINSK, 24 March (BelTA) - The STV TV channel looked into Belarus’ presidential inauguration ceremonies of the past years, BelTA learned.

On 25 March, Aleksandr Lukashenko will be sworn-in and take office. Some details are already known. The inauguration motorcade will travel along the two main avenues of Minsk – Nezavisimosti Avenue and Pobeditelei Avenue.

The presidential motorcade will be flanked by nine motorcyclists and will start from Nezavisimosti Avenue at 11.45. The inauguration ceremony will begin at noon. By the way, more than 1,100 people are invited to the ceremony.

A certain tradition of the presidential inauguration ceremony was developed in 2001. Everything was made strict and official: the arrival of the motorcade, the oath on the Constitution, the solemn speech. There was also a military part - the oath to the Commander-in-Chief. Then representatives of all military formations of the country march in review.

The details of the inauguration ceremony could change despite the well-established traditions. The head of state wearing the uniform of the Commander-in-Chief has greeted the military since 2006. In 2011, he attended the event together with his youngest son Nikolai. Since that year, Aleksandr Lukashenko has preferred a red tie for inauguration ceremonies.

For many years, former CEC head Lidiya Yermoshina stood by the side of the head of state at this crucial moment. “It was some kind of special feeling. Probably it was a feeling similar to the one great athletes have before a dive. I even had an amulet. Before the first inauguration Metropolitan Filaret gave me a consecrated cross to help and guide me,” Lidiya Yermoshina recalled.

In 2011, Lidia Yermoshina received a gift from the head of state. When she presented Aleksandr Lukashenko with the Certificate of President, he gave her a pen: the very one he used to sign the act of taking the oath.

The first inauguration in 1994 was very modest. Even business suits for such an event were hard to get.

"I chose my outfit very quickly. At that time, we were poor, and our protocol was very modest. Nowadays we have improved both in terms of the protocol and the attire. I can also say that I wore no makeup. I wore a lace jacket that I bought at the Minsk Fashion Center. It became my favorite item in my wardrobe. I wore it during business trips, to special events, and later it ended up in my friend’s wardrobe," Lidia Yermoshina stated.
