MINSK, 12 July (BelTA) – The live broadcast of sessions of the Supreme Council in the early 1990s was as good as the comedy show KVN. Lidia Yermoshina, who was the head of the Central Election Commission (CEC) for many years and a member of the CEC in 1992-1996, shared recollections as part of the documentary “One for all” released by the Belarusian TV channel ONT on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the introduction of presidency in Belarus, BelTA has learned.
Lidia Yermoshina said: “The live broadcast of sessions of the Supreme Council replaced [the comedy show] KVN. It totally replaced everything that had previously entertained the population.”
“Instead of getting wages, earning their wages men would spend all day in front of a TV set. I couldn’t blame them because the plant was not working. Then again people travelling by the mass transit system would talk only about what happened at a session of the Supreme Council the day before,” she added.
