MINSK, 26 January (BelTA) – All conditions are in place for the SCO election observation mission to perform its duties efficiently at the presidential election in Belarus, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, head of the SCO election observation mission Nurlan Yermekbayev told journalists, BelTA reports.

“The SCO mission came to Minsk to monitor the presidential election in Belarus at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Observation of elections and referendums is one of the areas of SCO activity. And we regard the invitation to observe the election as a sign of trust, respect and, at the same time, the willingness of the leadership of the Republic of Belarus to ensure the openness of the electoral process, improve electoral procedures and involve a wide range of observers in such work,” Nurlan Yermekbayev noted.

“Now the observers of our mission are deployed at various polling stations in  Minsk and in the regions. At the moment, we see many people coming to polling stations to cast their ballot; it is noteworthy that there are many young voters among them. All the necessary conditions for the work of our mission are in place,” said Nurlan Yermekbayev.
