With EU’s tacit consent: Tomasz Szmydt’s passport revoked by Poland

MINSK, 11 October (BelTA) - Polish former judge Tomasz Szmydt announced that his passport of a citizen of Poland was revoked, BelTA has learned.

"Why cancel the passport? All this is happening with the tacit consent of the EU authorities. Everyone ignores the fact that this is a violation of human rights, freedoms in Europe," Tomasz Schmidt said.He recalled that several arrest warrants had been issued against him. "I inflicted so much harm on the Polish authorities that they issued two warrants against me," he said, adding that now they got his passport revoked, although he physically has it.

The Polish former judge stressed that such actions are illegal. "Everybody understands perfectly well that this is illegal," he stressed.

According to Tomasz Szmydt, the passport was revoked “to make it impossible for him to travel."

He said that he will look into the consequences and see if this really may not allow him to go on vacation to, for example, Türkiye. Tomasz Szmydt added that perhaps he would send greetings to the Polish authorities from another country in a couple of weeks.

"Let's see how this stupidity of the Polish authorities works or does not work. I was just shocked when I reread what happened," he said, warning that he would not just leave it.When asked by journalists, Tomas Schmidt said the situation is ironic. "There is no evidence that I did harm to the Polish authorities by engaging in espionage activities," he said.

According to the former judge, the Polish press also writes about the lack of evidence to accuse him of espionage work, for example, for Russia or Belarus.

"We need to understand what is happening in Poland, the European Union. There is no democracy there. The word ‘democracy’ is just a sham," Tomasz Szmydt said.

In May 2024, Tomasz Szmydt, due to disagreement with the policy and actions by the authorities, was forced to leave Poland and to ask for protection from the Belarusian authorities.
