MINSK, 4 May (BelTA) - The Vremya Pervogo program on Belarus 1 TV channel detailed why Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko decided to send 100 kg of potatoes to Dagestan, Russia, BelTA has learned.
This week, 100 kg of potatoes from the presidential estate were flown to Dagestan, accompanied by Chairman of the international public association Goro (Russia) Khizri Asadulaev. Khizri Asadulaev, an artist and sculptor working in Belarus, had casually mentioned that he wished to organize a draniki (potato pancake) festival in his hometown using potatoes from the presidential estate during a meeting between Aleksandr Lukashenko and representatives of various nationalities. The response was swift.

"He is a leader who pays attention to the people, their requests, remarks and wishes. That is invaluable," Khizri Asadulaev said about the Belarusian head of state.
The topic of potatoes has recently sparked discussions online. Some people struggled to find them in stores, while others complained about their poor quality. Journalists asked Agriculture and Food Minister Yuri Gorlov how the ministry responded to the situation.
"We conducted another review of potato availability. We worked with the Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade (MART) to address the issue, and now every store has potatoes in stock," Yuri Gorlov said. "Some may have minor defects, but I don’t see any major problems."
