MINSK, 10 September (BelTA) – In a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel, national security expert Aleksandr Tishchenko gave his take on the most promising avenues of cooperation between Belarus and Iran.
“Iran holds significant interest for us due to its technological advancements. Conversely, our agricultural machinery, fertilizers, and specialized expertise across various sectors present clear value for Tehran. We must also consider tourism potential, alongside the crucial dimension of security cooperation,” stated Aleksandr Tishchenko.

The expert noted that Minsk and Tehran share similar strategic roles within their respective regions: Belarus is located in the center of Europe, while Iran commands critical trade crossroads in the Middle East. “Tehran exerts substantial influence over regional dynamics. Recall how Iran’s threat to close the Strait of Hormuz risked destabilizing global oil markets,” he emphasized.

Aleksandr Tishchenko attributed Belarus’ good relations with Iran primarily to the efforts of Aleksandr Lukashenko. The same can be said about Russia and China, with whose leaders the president of Belarus maintains friendly relations.

“This level of engagement has been achieved thanks to Aleksandr Lukashenko’s contacts with Putin, Xi Jinping, Modi and the leader of Iran. There are also countries in Europe that cooperate with us,” the expert added.

A reminder, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on 20 August. The leaders of the two countries held substantive talks that lasted almost four hours in a warm and constructive atmosphere.
