War commemorative campaign launched in Belarus 


MINSK, 19 April (BelTA) – A solemn launch for the national campaign "Belarus Remembers: Relay of Memory" took place in Minsk on 19 April, BelTA has learned.

The launch ceremony was held as part of the nationwide seminar with the heads of public search associations organized by the Defense Ministry. The ceremony was held at the memorial complex to the victims of fascism in Minsk.


"Today, in the sacred place where more than 30,000 fallen Red Army soldiers and civilians were buried, we are launching the national campaign ‘Belarus Remembers: Relay of Memory’,” said Major General Leonid Kasinsky, Assistant to the Defense Minister for Ideological Work in the Armed Forces - Head of the Main Department of Ideological Work.

According to him, the idea of the campaign came from public search associations. "It was supported by the Defense Ministry and the national organizing committee for the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders," the assistant minister said.

"From May to October, this relay will be held in all regional centers," Leonid Kasinsky added. “The first event will be held immediately after Victory Day, in early May, in Svetlogorsk District. It will involve general public: search associations and clubs. In the course of the relay, we plan to hold a small marathon of memory. We will also engage schoolchildren and students. Because today it is very important to work with kids."
