MINSK, 13 December (BelTA) – About 20 violations of the state border by various drones have been registered this year. State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich mentioned the figure as he visited a section of Belarus’ state border with Ukraine in Brest Oblast, the press service of the State Border Committee of Belarus told BelTA.
The maneuvering force of the Brest branch of the border service was examined upon instructions from the Belarus president. Aleksandr Volfovich examined how the border is guarded in the area of the border guard station Orekhovo of the Brest branch of the border service. He also went to the international border crossing Mokrany.
The state secretary of the Security Council said that over 350 flights of unmanned aerial vehicles along the Belarusian border have been registered this year. “About 20 violations of the state border by various drones have been registered. Our border service is taking corresponding measures. When fired upon, the unmanned aerial vehicles that have not been destroyed fly back across the border. This year at the southern border alone we’ve registered about 40 provocations involving the penetration of our territory, damage to our border posts, the placement of banners with obscenities, and other flagrant, absolutely undemocratic, and absolutely unfriendly facts, which are manifested from the other side with regard to our state. This is why we focus on defense. And we are getting ready to defend our interests and primarily our nation. The border service is at the forefront. This is why today’s trip is supposed to verify the organization of border service at the southern border. We will see how the border guards carry out missions, what weapons they have, what their mood and spirit are. A snap inspection of a unit of the maneuvering force of the 86th border group took place today upon the president’s instructions. The personnel had to deploy to a designated area and the commanding officer had to deliver a report,” Aleksandr Volfovich explained.
He stressed that Belarus is not intent on aggression against the other side. “Regardless of whether it is Ukraine, Poland, or the Baltic states, we are in favor of good neighborhood. But we will cover, defend, and guard our territory. Moreover, in the run-up to the election we hear various statements from the West in favor of toppling the government by force, in favor of sending some extremist units here and crossing the state border. Certainly, it does not inspire joy or positive emotions. But I can tell them they’d better not try it. They’d better not tempt face. Our border service and other structures of the military organization of the state are ready to defend the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the constitutional system. We are satisfied with everything. We are satisfied with what we do. We focus primarily on social and economic development, on raising living standards of the citizens. This is why the working trip has been planned to verify whether the border service personnel are capable and whether they are ready to carry out priority missions in order to prevent the destabilization of the situation in our country. Judging from what I’ve see, I can conclude that the border service personnel are ready to carry out missions relating to the protection of our state border, the red line that encircles our beloved Belarus today,” Aleksandr Volfovich stressed.
The state secretary of the Security Council also met with personnel of the Brest branch of the border service and with personnel of the Brest customs house. He mentioned the main trends in the military and political situation in the region. He talked about challenges to national security and the measures the leadership of the state takes to neutralize them. It is no accident that today a lot of attention is paid to the verification of combat readiness. Taking into account the evolving situation exhaustive measures have been taken to defend the border. Aleksandr Volfovich also informed those present about recent agreements in the field of security, which had been signed within the framework of the Supreme State Council of the Union State of Belarus and Russia in Minsk, about their significance for citizens. In conclusion of the meeting he presented awards to outstanding personnel of the border service and the customs service.
