Vietnam keen to exchange experience with Belarus in peacekeeping activities

MINSK, 12 May (BelTA) - Vietnam has expressed interest in exchanging experience with Belarus’ Armed Forces in peacekeeping operations, Belarus’ Defense Ministry told BelTA following a meeting between Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin and Vietnamese Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang on 12 May.

As part of the official visit of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam to Belarus, Viktor Khrenin met with his Vietnamese counterpart Phan Van Giang. The parties discussed the current state and future prospects of bilateral cooperation, reviewed interim results for 2025, noting significant progress and strong momentum. Among the key areas of cooperation discussed were military medicine, topographic support, and military education.

"The momentum in our cooperation demonstrates both countries' commitment to achieving practical results. However, this also comes with great responsibility for implementing future projects across various sectors, including military affairs. Following a working meeting of relevant specialists in Minsk in March this year, an agreement was reached to train Vietnamese officers and cadets at the Military Academy of the Republic of Belarus. I assure you that the training of Vietnamese military personnel will be conducted at the highest level," Belarus’ defense minister stated.

He highlighted that Belarus and Vietnam hold similar views on preserving historical memory. "This year marks major commemorative events for our nations. On 30 April, your country celebrated the 50th anniversary of Victory Day, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam’s triumph over American aggression. On 9 May, we celebrated the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Our mutual respect for history and traditions serves as the foundation that enables us to speak the language of friendship and trust, fostering deeper relations. Effective and fruitful cooperation in various spheres, combined with strong engagement, has allowed us to elevate our partnership to a new level: strategic partnership," the minister emphasized.

"This is not our first meeting. During our visit to Belarus, we were impressed by its beautiful landscapes and modern architecture, reflecting the country’s unique character. We are happy to note that military and technical cooperation is a pillar of our partnership," Phan Van Giang said. He congratulated Viktor Khrenin on the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory and invited the ceremonial regiment of the servicemen of the Belarusian Armed Forces to participate in the parade dedicated to Vietnam’s Independence Day. The Belarusian minister accepted the invitation and stressed that the decision on participation would be reviewed.

Belarus and Vietnam reaffirmed their mutual interest in expanding and deepening ties, as reflected in previously signed military cooperation agreements. The Vietnamese side expressed interest in exchanging expertise with the Belarusian Armed Forces in peacekeeping activities.  Viktor Khrenin invited Vietnamese military personnel to participate in the Belarusian Armed Forces’ tactical shooting championship.
