Vice president of Cuba's parliament urges nations to join forces to mitigate sanctions

MINSK, 17 July (BelTA) – Vice President of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba Ana María Mari Machado called on countries to join forces to mitigate the impact of unfair restrictive measures as she met with Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko on 17 July, BelTA has learned.

“It is a great honor for us, Cubans, to host you; we are very happy to meet with you today. We have warm, friendly, fraternal relations with the people of Belarus. Our meeting shows that our countries are united not only by close political, economic, trade and financial ties, but also maintain close inter-parliamentary contacts. By the way, expansion of cooperation with Belarus is among the foreign policy priorities of the 10th convocation of the Cuban parliament,” Ana María Mari Machado said.

She thanked Belarus for its unwavering support for the people of Cuba in their fight against the unfair economic, trade and financial blockade imposed by the United States, as well as for strongly condemning the unlawful inclusion of Cuba in the list of state sponsors of terrorism. Ana María Mari Machado emphasized that this principled position of Belarus is highly appreciated by Cuba.

“I would also like to reaffirm that we condemn the restrictive measures against Belarus,” she said. “Countries facing such measures should band together and build stronger alliances in order to take the edge off this blow.”

“I am confident that your visit will give momentum to bilateral cooperation, including in economy and trade,” Ana María Mari Machado added.
