Vice premier: Belarusian forestry demonstrates strong growth

MINSK, 30 August (BelTA) — Belarus' forestry industry is developing dynamically, showing clear plans and prospects, Belarus' Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Karankevich said during a meeting with Forestry Minister Aleksandr Kulik, BelTA learned from the press service of the Forestry Ministry.

The deputy prime minister praised the performance of the industry, noting that the forestry sector was showing strong growth. There are clear plans and prospects for its further development. During the meeting, the parties discussed logging of storm-damaged forests, sales of products to domestic and external markets, consumption of wood pellets. Viktor Karankevich emphasized the importance of working out a clear action plan to sell wood pellets. The state intends to support citizens by approving a mechanism to partially compensate pellet purchase costs.

Viktor Karankevich also praised the industry's economic results and product sales. He highlighted the need to fulfill state procurement for raw materials. Supplies of plywood raw materials should be increased, he stressed. Despite the fact that all the resources of Belarus' forestry are currently focused on the cleaning up windfalls, large enterprises, which employs thousands of people, should be provided with the necessary raw materials.
