Uzbekistan seeks closer ties in education with Belarus

MINSK, 19 February (BelTA) - Uzbekistan is interested in developing cooperation in education with Belarus, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to Belarus Rakhmatulla Nazarov said during a roundtable "Uzbekistan and Belarus, a time-tested partnership" in BelTA’s press center.

The diplomat stressed that the visit of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko to Uzbekistan in February was historic.

"There was a common understanding that our countries can jointly enter the markets of third countries, including those neighboring Uzbekistan. This is in our interests," Ambassador Rakhmatulla Nazarov said.

According to him, cooperation in such areas as healthcare and pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and the textile industry has recently gained momentum.

Cooperation in education and culture will be gathering steam.

"The number of students studying in Belarus has increased significantly. About 1,200 students from Uzbekistan are studying in your universities in your country. All in all, about 4,000 students are enrolled in joint educational programs. There is a great interest in training specialists in Belarus in those specialties tailored to the needs of the real sector of the economy," the ambassador said.
