MINSK, 21 May (BelTA) – It is high time regular air and rail passenger services were resumed within the Eurasian Economic Union, Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said during the online meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council on 21 May, BelTA has learned.
“Taking into account the gradual stabilization of the epidemiological situation and vaccination of the population in our countries, we believe that the time has come to resume regular air and rail passenger services,” the Uzbekistan leader said.
In his words, the catalyst for deepening economic ties is the transport and transit sector. “The issues of speeding up the passage of cargoes through the borders, harmonization of standards, optimization of the time of operation of checkpoints, improvement of border crossing procedures need to be solved in the first place here. We are also interested in expanding the practice of granting mutual preferences for the transportation and transit of goods,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
As BelTA previously reported, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko also called for the resumption of free movement of citizens within the EAEU at the meeting. He cited the experience of the European Union in this regard.
