Unique footage of Lukashenko’s school years in BelTA’s project “How It Was: DOC”

MINSK, 2 September (BelTA) – “You haven't aged, we all look the same” - that was how Aleksandr Lukashenko greeted the teachers of Alexandria Secondary School that he visited in 2005. In BelTA’s YouTube project “How It Was: DOC” you will see unique footage of the president of Belarus sitting at his school desk and find out what his classroom was like.

A humble one-story building resembling a home – that was exactly what Aleksandr Lukashenko’s school in Alexandria looked like. A sign at the entrance, as modest as the building itself, reads: “The first President of the Republic of Belarus Aleksandr Grigorievich Lukashenko studied in this school.” Although the head of state graduated from this school more than half a century ago, he visits it from time to time, meets with his class teacher and recalls his school years.

One of such trips took place in 2005. Aleksandr Lukashenko was met at the school by teachers. “You haven't aged, you all look the same,” the president welcomed them warmly. And he began reminiscing what the school was like in those years when he was a simple student: “There was a corridor here. There was a blackboard there.”

The teachers carefully recreated the everyday life of a rural Soviet school. The desk where Aleksandr Lukashenko studied remained the same. True, now there is a sign on it that reads “A.G. Lukashenko”. There was the same kind of a pen on it that people used in those years.

“We put a book there,” one of the teachers added.

“This is our teacher's book, I guess it is from the library?” the president recalled. “And the window opened, didn’t it? I see, I remember.”
