Union State MPs to observe parliamentary, local elections in Belarus

MOSCOW, 21 February (BelTA) - A delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia will monitor the elections of deputies to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus of the eighth convocation as part of the CIS observer mission, BelTA learned from the PA press service.

The delegation of the Union State MPs will be headed by the Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly's Commission on Budget, Taxes and Financial Market Viktor Seliverstov. "The MPs will visit polling stations in Minsk, Brest and Minsk Oblast, meet with the leadership of the Central election Commission of the Republic of Belarus, regional election commissions, and also get acquainted with the work of the CEC Information Center. After the closing of the polling stations, Viktor Seliverstov will take part in a meeting of coordinators of delegations as part of the CIS observer mission to prepare the outcome document," the press service said.

"After the official results of the elections to the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus are announced, some of the newly elected MPs will be delegated to the Parliamentary Assembly. In accordance with the Union State Treaty, Belarus and Russia are represented in the Parliamentary Assembly by 36 deputies from the parliaments of the member states," the press service added.
