Union State MPs to discuss Chernobyl program, new projects on environmental safety

MINSK, 18 February (BelTA) – The Commission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia on Natural Resources, Ecology and Environmental Protection will hold an online meeting in Minsk and Moscow on 25 February, BelTA learned from the PA press service.

“MPs will consider issues related to the preparation of a joint proposal for the development of a Union State program of joint activities of Belarus and Russia within the Union State to overcome the negative consequences of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant accident,” the press service said. Additionally, the meeting agenda includes discussions on preparing new Union State projects aimed at modernizing and developing the radiation monitoring system of the Union State using mobile platforms for radiometric measurements, as well as ensuring environmental safety in the field of waste and secondary resource management within the Union State.

Representatives from the Union State Permanent Committee, the Emergencies Ministries of Belarus and Russia, the hydrometeorological services of both countries, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of Belarus, and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation have been invited to participate in the meeting.
