MINSK, 5 November (BelTA) – In the run-up to the 25th anniversary of the Union State, we can say with confidence that Belarus and Russia have made the right choice, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko told the media following a meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Union State in Minsk on 5 November, BelTA has learned.
"We held a regular meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Union State today. The communication with our Russian colleagues was traditionally constructive and productive. The meeting was held in a trusting atmosphere, in the spirit of allied fraternal relations between our states and peoples. It is symbolic that the current meeting of the Council of Ministers and the upcoming meeting of the Supreme State Council are being held in anticipation of a landmark date for us - the 25th anniversary of the formation of the Union State," Roman Golovchenko said.
On 8 December 1999, the Union State Treaty was signed and a joint program of actions to it was adopted. "Over the past quarter of a century, the integration of our countries has been pressing forward, bearing fruit in the form of equal rights for citizens, concerted foreign and defense policies, joint economic, technological and humanitarian projects and programs while fully preserving the sovereignty of Belarus and Russia. Today we can say with confidence that we made the right choice. The Union State building helps Belarus and Russia to resist modern challenges and threats. It creates the necessary conditions for the further successful development of our countries, improving the well-being and living standards of our peoples. It is also extremely important that our union has become the locomotive of integration processes in the post-Soviet space, in the Eurasian space," the Belarusian head of government said.
