Ukrainian politician advises compatriots to get COVID-19 vaccine in Belarus

GOMEL, 17 August (BelTA) – During a visit to Gomel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine Petro Symonenko told journalists that he will recommend Ukrainians to get vaccinated in Belarus, BelTA has learned.

Petro Symonenko was vaccinated against COVID-19 in Gomel City Central Polyclinic on 17 August. “I made an informed choice about where to be vaccinated and what vaccine to choose. I had experienced coronavirus, I had been through this all. And I realized that I would inevitably have to make a decision about vaccination,” he said.

Petro Symonenko was satisfied with the level of healthcare services in Gomel. “When I return to Ukraine, I will definitely tell my comrades, friends about it, and will use every opportunity to tell the public about my experience. I will recommend getting a vaccine here. All medical procedures are done here the way they should be. The injection is preceded by an examination and recommendations. I was warned of some restrictions related to physical activity. The facility was clean and tidy. Everything was done in my presence. Therefore, I will recommend Ukrainians to look for any opportunity to come to Belarus and get a vaccine that will truly protect them through a vaccine-induced immune response,” the politician emphasized.

According to Petro Symonenko, two factors influenced his decision to get a jab in Belarus. “I proceeded from the fact that this vaccine can be trusted, it was developed on the basis of very solid research of the Soviet period. It is recognized by scientists. At the same time, I want to emphasize that the  ongoing developments in Ukraine and the destruction of the domestic healthcare system prompted me to get a shot in Belarus. Where could I do it? In Ukraine the only thing they do is trying to make money on this. I want my compatriots, citizens of Ukraine, to be able to get adequate medical care and get vaccinated. I trust the entire healthcare system of Belarus, at all levels. The healthcare system of Belarus is a far cry from that of Ukraine. I saw this in Gomel City Central Polyclinic, a modern healthcare facility,” he said.

Petro Symonenko also met with local communists in Gomel Oblast to discuss cooperation between the political parties. “I would like to say thanks for the collaboration with the Chernihiv Oblast committee. And as we will exchange views, I will express my point of view on how to go on with this work. After all, our common goal is to improve the living standards of people,” he added.
