Ukrainian lives in England, criticizes censorship in West, in Ukraine

MINSK, 7 April (BelTA) – The West and Ukraine are not above blocking mass media or social networks that promote alternative points of view. The Ukrainian blogger and entrepreneur Vladimir Panchak made the relevant statement in a new episode of BelTA’s YouTube project V Teme [On Point]. He has lived in London for over 20 years.
“Republics of the former Soviet Union have lost the information war with the West. Although, for instance, the BBC keeps lying and pushing its own propaganda. The CNN does the same. The Soviet Union lost first and foremost the information war,” Vladimir Panchak said.

The blogger noted that after the maidan revolution Ukrainian authorities promptly banned the social networks Odnoklassniki and VKontakte. “The move disrupted communication between people. Prior to 2014 most of Ukrainians used these social networks and could communicate with relatives or simply with the people they knew in Belarus or Russia,” he pointed out. Vladimir Panchak added that about 20 million Ukrainians registered accounts in Facebook after the two social networks were blocked.

“They are not above banning something. For instance, England has banned Russia Today and they totally can do such things,” the blogger added. “The matter of blocking Telegram and TikTok is now being debated in Ukraine.”
