Ukrainian blogger unhappy about privatization, oligarchs in Ukraine

MINSK, 7 April (BelTA) – The privatization campaign that began in Ukraine in the 1990s robbed the Ukrainian nation. The Ukrainian blogger and entrepreneur Vladimir Panchak made the relevant statement in a new episode of BelTA’s YouTube project V Teme [On Point].
Vladimir Panchak said: “I always talk about Belarus and Belarusians with fondness. If Ukraine’s leadership was at least half of what Belarus’ is, I think all the things that are going in Ukraine right now would not have happened. It is a massive fratricidal war for me.”

According to the blogger, Belarusians were lucky to get Aleksandr Lukashenko as the president: “If I am not mistaken, he rose to power in 1994. And Belarus did not suffer from the complicated 1990s that befell Ukraine and Russia.”

Speaking about Ukraine in the 1990s, Vladimir Panchak remarked that the privatization campaign that began in the country back then robbed the Ukrainian nation. “Our people call it piratization for a reason. The people who became oligarchs have not built even a dog kennel in their lives. But for some reason they now own the entire national economy that was built by our joint nation after the Great Patriotic War,” the blogger stated.

Vladimir Panchak added that factories and plants in Ukraine had been privatized first. Then healthcare and education were privatized. The campaign culminated in the privatization of land.
