GRODNO, 19 November (BelTA) - Many of the people stuck at the Belarus-Poland border are ready to wait until the situation is resolved positively for them. They intend to get to Germany and other EU countries, one of the refugees told BelTA.
Today is the 12th day as several thousand refugees have been staying at the Belarusian-Polish border. About 2,000 people spent the night at the temporary accommodation point set up at the nearby logistics center. For some of them it was the first warm night: yesterday, all the refugees left their makeshift camps at the Bruzgi checkpoint and near the Polish border.
“I spent the night under the roof. The conditions are good, better than in the woods. Belarus provides us with everything we need. There is food, water, change clothes. However, we are still waiting for our situation to be resolved. We all want to get to Germany and other EU countries, and do not understand why Poland does not let us in. We do not want to stay in Poland,” one of the men said. He is certain that most of the refugees will wait for a positive decision. He has no intention of returning to Iraq.
“I am not going back, either. There is no work for me there, but there is a threat to my life. I was promised a job in Germany, but for some reason they do not keep their word,” another refugee said and asked the journalists about the recent news.
There are currently about 2,000 people in the temporary accommodation center at the border logistics hub. They are provided with hot meals, drinking water and bed linen. There is a mobile shop nearby. Medics are on standby 24/7.
