"On Point"
MINSK, 19 August (BelTA) - The telephone conversation between the presidents of Belarus and the USA demonstrates that the U.S. leader is seriously interested in Minsk's position, philosopher Aleksandr Dugin said in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“I think Trump is only now beginning to truly grasp the problems of international politics. Before this, there were campaign slogans. During his first term, he was simply getting accustomed to the role and was under the very strong influence of neoconservatives who dictated his foreign policy. Then he had to deal with court cases and simply survive,” Aleksandr Dugin said.
Now, according to the philosopher, Donald Trump has more or less settled into his role as U.S. president and has begun to take a closer look at other players on the international stage. “What does he see? He sees civilizational states, such as China and Russia. And no matter how much he might desire unilateral global dominance, he sees that these forces must be reckoned with,” Aleksandr Dugin emphasized.
In his words, the current U.S. leader speaks with respect to those nations that know their own worth and are prepared to defend their sovereignty. Aleksandr Dugin named Belarus among such nations. “Trump is now interested (I think sincerely) in stopping the war in Ukraine, or at least extricating himself from it. And Trump is taking a keen interest, perhaps for the first time, without any prejudices, in Minsk's position,” the philosopher believes.
Aleksandr Dugin believes that Donald Trump wants to form his own opinion about Belarus and its leadership, independent of the biased views of European politicians. "Trump is thinking about how things really are and is calling Lukashenko to clarify positions on one issue or another. He is developing completely different perceptions than those falsely shaped by the Western globalist elite. Trump is discovering reality. And I think his eyes will be opened to many things,” the philosopher added.
