‘This proves an unhealthy environment in society’. Expert on bullying in Polish schools

MINSK, 4 October (BelTA) - This is an extremely dangerous phenomenon and testifies to an unhealthy environment in society, member of the House of Representatives Vadim Gigin said as he commented on the information that Ukrainian and Belarusian children have been recently subjected to severe bullying in Polish schools.

“This is unacceptable in any country,” Vadim Gigin said. “Unfortunately, we can state that in recent years (actually, this situation has been on for several decades already) chauvinistic sentiments have intensified in Poland. Certain categories even turn to fascism. Marches of openly neo-Nazi character that take place on Poland's Independence Day can be cited as an example. Negative processes are taking place in the football fan community.”

These sentiments penetrate into the school environment as well, Vadim Gigin added.

“Nationalist, xenophobic propaganda, which is now in full swing in Poland at the official level, in the media, political parties, affects society as a whole. Children are often prone to such sentiments and use such nationalistic signs to bully their peers,” he added. “People often manifest various elements of such deviant behavior in adolescence. But when they mix with ideological characteristics, it becomes extremely dangerous and indicates to an unhealthy environment in society.”
