MINSK, 13 August (BelTA) - In the situation with the four Latvians detained with marijuana on the border, Belarus acted according to the law, Latvia’s Violetta Tsirsis said on the air of the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.

"Belarus defended its border, its country, its people. Thank God, the situation was sorted out quickly and efficiently. All the tests and analyzes confirmed that the children were innocent," Violetta Tsirsis said.

As BelTA has reported, four Latvian citizens were detained while crossing the Belarusian border on 26 July. During a meeting with residents of the agro-town of Prudok on 2 August, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said that he had instructed to clarify all the circumstances related to the detention of four Latvian citizens in Belarus. They were found carrying drugs for which they were detained by law enforcement officers to clarify all the circumstances.

Violetta Tsirsis emphasized that the children were treated very well in Belarus. "The mothers had all kinds of worries. Sleepless nights, sedatives. I came from Daugavpils to support my son. We, all four mothers, rented an apartment for the children. The children lived in normal conditions, had regular meals and slept normally. We have no complaints. They took walks and had meals. Everything was fine," she said. “Thank God, law enforcement figured everything out in 72 hours. We were told the children were being released. I think that no one was going to hold innocent children for something they did not commit. I say again: thank you for sorting things out."
