MOSCOW, 25 January (BelTA) – Any discussions about possible deployment of the CSTO collective forces to the Russia-Ukraine border are speculations, former CSTO State Secretary Nikolai Bordyuzha said at a press conference in Moscow on 25 January, BelTA has learned.
When asked about the possibility of deploying the CSTO forces to the border of Russia and Ukraine in case of provocations, Nikolai Bordyuzha recalled that any deployment requires a consensus decision of all member states. “But I can say this: the collective potential of the CSTO, as a rule, is used only if a state cannot neutralize the threats it faces using its internal resources. Only in this case, neighbors and allies come to help. Russia does not need the CSTO collective potential to fend off the threat it is facing,” he noted.
"Therefore, there are no grounds to talk about any deployment. These are just idle talks," Nikolai Bordyuzha emphasized.
