MINSK, 3 April (BelTA) – Systemic work is in progress in educational institutions to instill a respectful attitude to state symbols. Belarusian Education Minister Andrei Ivanets mentioned it at a session of the republican interagency coordinating council for the patriotic upbringing of the population held in the National Library of Belarus on 3 April to discuss efforts to instill respect for state symbols, BelTA has learned.
Andrei Ivanets said: “Systemic work is in progress in educational institutions to instill a respectful attitude to our state symbols.”
In his words, amendments and addenda have been introduced to the educational standard on preschool education. “In particular, a new section on foundations of civic and patriotic culture has been added to the preschool education program. This section introduces preschool kids to the native land, to state symbols, inspires a respectful attitude to the heroic past of our nation and a feeling of pride for accomplishments of our country,” the education minister noted.
Andrei Ivanets is convinced that the school subjects taught in vocational schools have a great potential for shaping the knowledge about state symbols. “Students grasp the meaning of every component of the state symbols. Studying the state symbols within the framework of extracurricular activities is important,” the official remarked. “A textbook has been developed on the history of Belarusian statehood. It is being shipped to all the vocational schools. Higher education institutions also have a corresponding set of learning items. As part of the mandatory school subject ‘The history of Belarusian statehood’ students also study the state symbols of the Republic of Belarus.”
