MINSK, 23 May (BelTA) - The level of support for candidates vying for Poland’s highest government office is equal ahead of the second round of the presidential election, TASS reported, citing the results of a survey conducted by the Ipsos research center.
According to the survey, an equal number of voters, 47% each, plan to support Rafał Trzaskowski, the candidate from the ruling Civic Coalition party, and Karol Nawrocki, the representative of the Law and Justice party. Meanwhile, 6% of respondents did not answer the question regarding their choice in the second round.
Voter turnout at polling stations is projected to be 66%. Some 26% of respondents do not intend to vote, and another 8% have not yet decided whether they will participate.
The survey was conducted on 20-22 May among 1,000 Polish citizens aged from 18 to 80.
Sociological surveys conducted in March and April showed Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski leading over Karol Nawrocki. However, the results of a study by the Ogólnopolska Grupa Badawcza research center, published on 22 May, put Karol Nawrocki at the top for the first time.
According to official data from the Polish National Electoral Commission, Rafał Trzaskowski won the first round of the presidential election on 18 May with 31.36% of the vote, followed by Karol Nawrocki with 29.54%. The second round of elections is scheduled for 1 June.
