Stories about Belarus’ plans for Chernobyl NPP dismissed as ‘absurd speculations’

MINSK, 3 October (BelTA) – Fake stories alleging that Belarus is hatching plans to seize the Chernobyl nuclear power plant are absurd speculations having no grounds whatsoever, Master of Political Science Viktor Sayevich, an economist, a lecturer at the Belarusian State Economic University, told BelTA.

"These are just absurd speculations. Some kind of bad joke, a stupid provocation. Our country does not need a single millimeter of foreign land, we have enough of our own," Viktor Sayevich said.

In his words, such speculations are absolutely groundless, especially considering that Belarus suffered the worst from the Chernobyl disaster and is still working hard to mitigate its consequences.

“I cannot imagine anyone believing that our country may need such a dangerous nuclear facility, a source of radioactive contamination. Nevertheless, they continue to spread misinformation,” the expert said.
