MINSK, 14 February (BelTA) – A solid waste recycling rate in Belarus reached 39.6% in 2024, Belarusian Housing and Utilities Minister Gennady Trubilo said at the ministerial board meeting to review the performance in 2024 and discuss the tasks to improve the efficiency of the housing and utilities services in 2025, BelTA has learned.
One of the important tasks for the country’s housing and utilities sector is to improve the efficiency of the household solid waste management system. The country fulfilled the target for 2024. “Last year, a total of 840,200 tonnes of secondary material resources were collected, which made up 103.5% of the target,” Gennady Trubilo said. “About 39.6% of all the generated household waste was utilized, while the set target for the year was 36%.”
Several measures are being implemented under the state program “Comfortable Housing and Favorable Environment” to secure a high waste recycling rate. One of them is to improve the household waste management system, including segregation. This measure is aimed at updating the material and technical base as well as the collection and removal of household solid waste, including the purchase of waste bins and garbage trucks. A total of 131 garbage trucks and 63,400 waste bins for the collection of household solid waste were purchased in 2024.
Efforts are also in place to set up solid waste recycling facilities in the country.
