Snopkov: China is ready to expand cooperation with Belarus

MINSK, 9 June (BelTA) - China is ready to deepen and expand cooperation with Belarus, and today everything depends on Belarus, Belarus' First Deputy Prime Minister Nikolai Snopkov said in an interview with the Vremya Pervogo [Time of the First] project on the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.

China has recently made significant progress in terms of developing and implementing the latest technologies. “Indeed, the technologies are amazing. First, they themselves invest huge amounts of money in R&D, which is the foundation of technology. Last year, their patents in scientific research and artificial intelligence already surpassed the number of patents registered annually in the United States. This shows that it is a high-tech country,” the first deputy prime minister explained.

Belarus was unable to invest such significant financial resources in science due to objective circumstances, he said. Now, of course, it is interested in adopting state-of-the-art technologies.

China, in turn, is ready to share its latest developments and technologies with Belarus, Nikolai Snopkov said. “It will be a real breakthrough when Chinese technologies will be applied on our machine-building industry base, which dates back to the post-Soviet era, on our competencies, which we truly have, with our highly-qualified design, technological, and engineering personnel,” he said.

As for how soon this might happen, the first deputy prime minister believes that everything depends on Belarus. According to him, during a recent meeting between the leaders of the two countries in Beijing, Chinese President Xi Jinping once again assured Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko that China is ready to deepen and expand cooperation in all areas.

“My conclusion is everything depends on us. The speed depends solely on our diligence and readiness to quickly absorb innovations,” said Nikolai Snopkov.
