MINSK, 13 July (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko delivered on his word to the people: the situation on the border with Ukraine is under control and de-escalated, director of the representative office of the Interstate Television and Radio Company MIR in Belarus, chairwoman of the Belarusian Women's Union Olga Shpilevskaya told BelTA.
“The whole society, especially women, followed very closely the situation on the southern border. We clearly understand how much effort the West is making today to draw us into the military conflict by any means, how difficult it is to resist all this and what it costs both the defense and security agencies and the head of state personally to keep this situation under control," Olga Shpilevskaya said.
It is always important to talk, she noted. "It doesn't matter what kind of conversation it is. Either it is a face-to-face dialogue or signals and messages. They are still heard and understood," she stressed.

"I think everyone remembers the messages and comments the head of state gave on 2 July as he was speaking about the situation on the southern border. He said honestly to the public that there were tensions and all necessary steps were taken to remove them. The president calmed the people down by saying that everything necessary would be done to keep peace in the country. The task of the country's authorities is to keep the situation under control, and we are doing so. The people heard us and realized that everything would be fine,” she emphasized. “The president’s message was also addressed to the Ukrainian leadership and Western countries. The president said that we do not want and are not going to fight with anyone and do not want to be dragged into this conflict. He explained what was happening on the border and what actions we were taking.”
“Today we see that the president kept the word he gave to his people. The situation is under control,” Olga Shpilevskaya said. “The fact that Ukraine withdrew its troops and the head of state gave an order to withdraw our troops shows that our message was heard and the situation has stabilized.”
