MINSK, 15 March (BelTA) - The younger generation, who are leaping into adulthood today, will continue the traditions of Belarus in the future, Head of the Belarus President Administration Igor Sergeyenko said a ceremony to present passports to young citizens in the Museum of Modern Belarusian Statehood, a branch of the National History Museum of Belarus, in Minsk on 15 March, BelTA has learned.
Igor Sergeyenko presented the passports to 20 students from all regions of the country. The ceremony held as part of the Belarusian campaign "We are Citizens of Belarus!" traditionally featured the best representatives of the younger generation – A grade students, participants of scientific conferences, winners and prize-winners of Olympiads, national competitions, festivals, competitions, active members of children's and youth public associations.
“Today is a touching and exciting day in the life of children: they get their first serious document - the passport of a citizen of the Republic of Belarus, a step into adulthood. Symbolically, the ceremony takes place on the Constitution Day, an important public holiday. The guys came from different parts of the country. All of them have already excelled in studies, sports, art, various national and regional competitions,” Igor Sergeyenko noted. “This is a big day - getting a passport at the age of 14 in a ceremony in the center of Minsk, in the President Administration. The Constitution is the main document of our country, a document of the highest legal force. The Constitution directly reflects such issues as the state structure, rights, freedoms and duties of citizens of Belarus. Having received a passport, young men and women also acquire certain rights and obligations to the state, to their parents."
Ahead of you are many years of study, the choice of a profession, a lot of work and creativity, Igor Sergeyenko said addressing the students. “I am sure that you have been working towards your goals and achievements since childhood and have worked hard to excel. I believe that you will achieve more successes, hone your skills, and deliver great results in studies and other fields. I would like to wish the young citizens of Belarus, who have entered the adulthood, true friends, strong health, persistence, and brilliant achievements,” Igor Sergeyenko noted.
Maria Tsareva, a student from Minsk, has participated in various events and competitions since childhood. “I was very nervous as I was getting ready for the ceremony,” she noted. “This day is very memorable, because when citizens receive passports, they not only enter adult life, but also assume a great responsibility. It is a great honor for me to be here. I believe that all the participants of the ceremony will do their best to live up to the expectations and contribute to the prosperity of our country,” Maria Tsareva said.
The nationwide campaign “We are Citizens of Belarus!” timed to the Constitution Day is held in Belarus every year under the motto #raZAm. During the campaign, 14-year-old Belarusians receive their passports from government officials, public figures, and honorary citizens of the country.
