Sergeyenko: Serbia is Belarus’ key partner in the Balkans

MINSK, 16 October (BelTA) – Serbia is Belarus’ key partner in the Balkans, Chairman of the House of Representatives Igor Sergeyenko said as he met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Serbia to the Republic of Belarus Ilina Vukajlović, BelTA has learned.

The meeting is taking place on the occasion of the start of the ambassador’s diplomatic work in the Republic of Belarus.

“I would like to congratulate you on the start of your diplomatic mission. I am confident that your knowledge, experience, genuine interest in Belarus, enthusiasm and desire to promote relations with Belarus across the board and in every possible way will be very helpful in expanding our cooperation,” the speaker said.

“We are connected by many things: the present and the past. Serbia is a key partner for us in the Balkans. In fact, it is the only country in Europe with which we have a visa-free regime and a free trade agreement. We support Serbia's territorial integrity and its position on sensitive issues on international platforms. And we count on the same support and attitude from you,” noted Igor Sergeyenko.

According to him, contacts between the two countries have gained momentum recently.
