Sergeyenko praises Union State’s role in preserving memory of Great Victory

MOSCOW, 12 December (BelTA) - The Union State of Belarus and Russia plays a great role  in preserving the memory of the Great Victory, Igor Sergeyenko, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, First Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, said as he addressed the session of the Parliamentary Assembly in Moscow on 12 December, BelTA learned.

“We will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory in 2025. This is one of the most memorable dates in our common history, which symbolizes the unity and courage of the peoples of the Soviet Union. It is encouraging that we regularly renovate the sites that commemorate our historical memory such as the Brest Fortress, the city of Rzhev, and the Kursk Bulge at the expense of the Union State budget. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Standing Committee [of the Union State] for its assistance in financing the exposition of the Buynichskoye Pole memorial complex near Mogilev,” Igor Sergeyenko said.

“In the run-up to the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, we are planning to hold the Great Heritage - Common Future international patriotic forum of the Union State in the hero city of Volgograd. I am confident that the forum will contribute to preserving the memory of the most terrible and destructive war and commemorating the brave defenders of the Fatherland. It will give a new impetus to combating the attempts to falsify the history, modern challenges and threats to humanity,” he emphasized.
