MINSK, 17 May (BelTA) - Relations between Belarus and Türkiye are built on friendship and mutual understanding, Chairman of the House of Representatives Igor Sergeyenko said as he met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkey to Belarus Güçlü Cem Işık in Minsk on 17 May, BelTA has learned.
"I would like to congratulate you on the start of your diplomatic mission in our country. I am sure that your solid experience in the diplomatic service, the work in the Turkish Presidency and the Ministry of National Defense will allow you to quickly get up to speed and contribute to the development of Belarusian-Turkish cooperation," the speaker said.
Belarus stands for peace and stability, Igor Sergeyenko emphasized. "Our country is a reliable partner that pursues an open policy based on the principles of trust and equality. The Belarusian president spoke about this in detail during the recent Belarusian People's Congress," he said. "Relations between our countries have long relied on friendship and mutual understanding. This process is spearheaded by Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.The heads of state openly exchange views on issues of bilateral cooperation, international issues, on ways of developing and strengthening the Belarusian-Turkish relations.”Close, friendly relations are also maintained between the legislative bodies of the two countries, the speaker noted. "Currently in force are the protocol on cooperation between the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus and the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Türkiye signed in 2013 and the joint statement on cooperation of 2018. We exchange visits, hold meetings at the level of speakers of parliaments and friendship groups, conduct online consultations and other events. The new Parliament will continue such interaction," Igor Sergeyenko added. “Soon we will form a working group on cooperation with the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Türkiye.
