 Sergeyenko: Belarus respects Palestinian people

MINSK, 13 June (BelTA) - Belarus respects the Palestinian people, Chairman of the House of Representatives Igor Sergeyenko said during a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Palestine to the Republic of Belarus Ahmed Almathbouh, BelTA has learned.

"We highly appreciate your active civic and political position on the development of relations between our countries. You are an experienced, accomplished diplomat. I know that you worked in Bulgaria. You have been working in Minsk for two years now, promoting relations between our states. I am sure that the historical ties between Belarus and Palestine serve as a solid basis for our cooperation. Our country has a respectful regard for the Palestinian people," Igor Sergeyenko said.

"As for our cooperation in the international arena, Belarus traditionally provides support to Palestine in the UN during votes on Middle East resolutions, which is actually comparable to the support by Arab countries," the speaker said. "I think that Palestine knows Belarus as a peace-loving state and a staunch advocate of peaceful existence of states, including thanks to the efforts of the embassy."The meeting was initiated by the Palestinian side to discuss issues of bilateral cooperation.
