Sergeyenko: Belarus-Myanmar cooperation potential has not been exhausted

MINSK, 7 March (BelTA) – The potential for cooperation between Belarus and Myanmar has not been exhausted, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko said as he met with Chairman of the State Administrative Council, Prime Minister of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Min Aung Hlaing, BelTA has learned.

“First of all, I would like to note that the Republic of the Union of Myanmar is a friend of the Republic of Belarus. Strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation is our country’s foreign policy priority in Southeast Asia,” said Igor Sergeyenko.

The visit is an important milestone for Belarus-Myanmar diplomatic relations. The 25th anniversary of these relations was celebrated last year, the speaker remarked. “During this period, much has been done to strengthen bilateral contacts in a variety of areas, to develop the legal framework and implement joint projects. At the same time, the potential for our cooperation is far from being exhausted. This was acknowledged during the official talks between the president of the Republic of Belarus and you, as well as during the meeting with the prime minister of the Republic of Belarus that has just finished,” Igor Sergeyenko said.

“We know that during your visit, enterprises and companies of Belarus and Myanmar signed more than 15 contracts and memorandums in various areas of trade and economic cooperation. I am confident that these agreements and documents will give a powerful impetus to Belarus-Myanmar cooperation and will serve as an incentive for government agencies and companies to work harder to achieve results,” the speaker added.
