MINSK, 30 August (BelTA) – Multifaceted interaction between Belarus and China will only grow stronger with time, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko said as he met with outgoing Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Belarus Xie Xiaoyong, BelTA has learned.
“I know you as a great friend of our country. During your work in Belarus, you have been able to take a deep dive into all the aspects of Belarus-China relations, you are familiar with all the projects and have contributed to their implementation in our country. Almost four years is a considerable period of time. I think that your work in Belarus has left a remarkable imprint on your life. You are a seasoned diplomat, you have extensive experience of diplomatic work in different regions of the Russian Federation, in Ukraine, and Belarus. You know Slavic traditions very well. You speak Russian perfectly. And during this seemingly short period of time of a person’s life, you have done a lot and many remarkable events happened on your watch during your tenure in the Republic of Belarus,” Igor Sergeyenko said.
He recalled that the joint declaration on the establishment of the highest level of relations - an all-weather and comprehensive strategic partnership – was passed at the SCO summit in Samarkand in September 2022. Igor Sergeyenko called it a landmark event in the history of bilateral relations. “You helped this happen. It is thanks to our leaders - President of the Republic of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko and President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping - that a regular exchange of high-profile visits has been established, and a lot of efforts are invested in achieving meaningful results. We are grateful to the Chinese side and to you personally for your support in organizing the official visit of Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China Li Qiang, which took place this month. It resulted in signing a large package of agreements and arrangements in the economic sector. Of course, the most important of them is the intergovernmental agreement on trade in services and investment, which provides for the creation of a free trade zone between our countries. This is a further step on the path of our economic, cooperation,” Igor Sergeyenko remarked.
“As part of the efforts to promote inter-parliamentary dialogue you helped arrange the visit of the National Assembly delegation to the People's Republic of China. I am confident that our parliaments, including the High-Level Cooperation Committee, will play an important role in strengthening multifaceted cooperation between our countries,” added Igor Sergeyenko.
