Sergeyenko: Belarus-Azerbaijan humanitarian cooperation has an extensive agenda

MINSK, 11 June (BelTA) – Belarus and Azerbaijan have a very diverse agenda in humanitarian cooperation, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko said as he met with Speaker of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova, BelTA has learned.
“We have an extensive agenda in humanitarian cooperation. This includes cooperation in culture and science. Our leading educational institutions and research centers are exploring a possibility to invite specialists, researchers, scientists to give lectures in various fields of expertise. In other words, certain preparatory work is already underway,” said Igor Sergeyenko. “Tourism offers ample cooperation opportunities, too. Azerbaijan is a very promising tourist destination, so is Belarus,” he remarked.

It is important for our countries to preserve historical truth and historical memory in the face of attempts by the West to rewrite and denigrate the historical legacy of the two countries. “And we must defend this truth both in word and in deed. We simply must preserve this memory and pass it on,” the speaker emphasized.
In Belarus, the memory of natives of Azerbaijan who made an invaluable contribution to the Great Victory is sacred. The Victory Hall of the State Museum of the Great Patriotic War History features the names of eight glorious sons of Azerbaijan, Heroes of the Soviet Union, who showed courage and heroism during the liberation of Belarus. Among them is twice Hero of the Soviet Union, Major General of Tank Forces Azi Aslanov. The tank brigade under his command participated in the liberation of Pleshchenitsy, Smorgon, Vileika, Molodechno, and in the crossing of the Berezina River.
