Sergeyenko: Attempts to destabilize Belarus will continue, especially ahead of elections
MINSK, 29 April (BelTA) - Attempts to destabilize the Belarusian society will continue, especially in the run-up to the upcoming election campaign, Chairman of the House of Representatives Igor Sergeyenko said during a working meeting with MPs on their work in constituencies, BelTA has learned.
"Attempts to destabilize our society will continue, especially in anticipation of the upcoming election campaign," Igor Sergeyenko said. “But we must, as the head of state pointed out, do our best to keep Belarus and its people safe and, what is preferable, to avoid war. Belarus’ Military Doctrine clearly enshrines the peaceful status of our state and we are not going to attack anyone."
People should understand that they are not outside observers, the speaker noted. "Today, peace in the country, the fight against the threats of terrorism and extremism depend on each of us," he stressed.
"Therefore, the president's call to the delegates of the Belarusian People’s Congress to be vigilant, to inform the authorities about any facts that can destabilize the situation in the country, should be perceived as a factor in ensuring our own security, the safety of our loved ones," Igor Sergeyenko added.
