MINSK, 12 November (BelTA) – Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko assessed the state of inter-parliamentary contacts with distant arc countries at a meeting of the Council of the House of Representatives, BelTA has learned.
“The Belarusian delegation paid an official visit to the Lao People's Democratic Republic on 19-20 October. We took part in the 45th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly on the topic “The Role of Parliaments in Enhancing Connectivity and Inclusive Growth of ASEAN”. During the official visit, the Belarusian delegation met with senior officials of the Lao People's Democratic Republic. A memorandum of cooperation was signed between the parliaments of Belarus and Laos. A number of issues related to bilateral relations, including trade and economic cooperation, were discussed. On the sidelines of these events, the Belarusian delegation met with the chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the AIPA secretary general,” Igor Sergeyenko remarked.
The Belarus-Vietnam interparliamentary cooperation groups will hold a videoconference to discuss issues of interaction, as well as ways to facilitate the implementation of the agreements reached by the heads of state and the parliaments, the speaker noted. “This also concerns efforts to fast-track the intergovernmental agreement between the Republic of Belarus and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on the abolition of visas for holders of national passports,” the chairman of the House of Representatives emphasized.
Igor Sergeyenko recalled that the Belarusian parliamentary delegation recently returned from the Republic of South Africa. This visit was very productive and actually marked the beginning of intensified cooperation with the Pan-African Parliament. A memorandum of cooperation was signed between the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus and the Pan-African Parliament.
