MINSK, 21 November (BelTA) – People sign in support of the incumbent Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, in support of the current policy, peace and order in the country, head of Lukashenko's initiative group, chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus, Yuri Senko told the media, BelTA has learned.
"Nowadays, the signature collection points provide all necessary information. But people know our president, his accomplishments and the work he does today. Certainly, they are convinced that this policy and approaches will remain in place. It is exactly what people want as they come to sign in support of the Belarusian president. They are sure that the peace, order, progress will be preserved. This is the main message form the people. We feel the unity, the spirit of our country," Yuri Senko said.
As far as the collection of signatures is concerned, over 1.5 million signatures have been already collected in support of the incumbent president. "Our initiative group will continue working. There are requests from labor teams and also from people who due to health reasons cannot come to the points," the head of the initiative group said. "But our leader asked not to dramatize the situation and to put up signature collection points in the most crowded places. Public reception offices will also collect signatures. Certainly, we will visit the enterprise that sent us requests to make it easier for people to sign in support of the candidate."
Thus, the signature collection will continue until 6 December.
As BelTA previously reported, at a meeting with the head and coordinators of the his initiative group, Aleksandr Lukashenko ordered not to terminate prematurely signature collection in his support. "We are collecting signatures until 6 December. Therefore, I would like to consult with you once again on our plans going forward. I have already said that we should probably stop collecting signatures, but this would be wrong, because people will take issue with it. Thus, we should remain out there until 6 December to give people an opportunity to sign in," the Belarusian leader said.
The president emphasized that there is no need to overload people: “We should not overload members of the initiative group. We do not want them to overexert themselves. We do not ask them to canvass frantically from house to house touting something, we do not want excessive signature collection points. A sufficient number has already been collected.”
