Sculptor from Italy gives her take on destruction of traditional values in Europe

MINSK, 16 March (BelTA) - Traditional values in Europe have been destroyed, and this happened, among other things, because Europeans forgot their history, Greek-Italian sculptor, painter and jeweler Lisa Sotilis said in a recent episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.

“I remember the history very well, while many people have forgotten it. It is a big mistake and it leads to tragic consequences. The things that Europe have faced took place because people don't remember history well. I remember [Soviet and Russian statesman Mikhail] Gorbachev, the fall of the Berlin Wall. I remember every separation of nations, every agreement that was signed. One side did not honor the agreements. Of course, it wasn't your side, it was the other one. I always say what I think. I can’t do otherwise. They get mad at me, but my family and I believe in the truth. I come from an amazing family, a military family. They respect their land, their country, their flag. They want to preserve and protect their country, not give it away,” Lisa Sotilis said.

The sculptor believes it is terrible that traditional values have been destroyed in Europe. She is really happy that she could find these values in Belarus. “We left home with a heavy heart, but we arrived in a beautiful country. This brought my childhood memories back. I was brought up by my grandfather because my father died when I was little. Greece worshipped him because he was a real hero,” she said.

Lisa Sotilis said that her ancestor was a general from Athens: “He was a hero of his country. His wife was also of noble descent. She was originally from Sicily. You know, mainland Greece and the island are like mother and children. So, he was a marquis of the Holy Roman Empire, originally from Sicily. In 1821, he went to Greece, which had started a war of independence from the Ottoman Empire. Life was very hard for the Greeks under the Ottoman yoke. For example, Greek schools were forbidden.”
