SCO observation mission recognizes elections in Belarus as transparent, democratic

MINSK, 26 February (BelTA) - The SCO observation mission recognizes the elections in Belarus as transparent and democratic, SCO Deputy Secretary General, head of the observation mission Nurlan Yermekbayev said at a press conference at the CEC Information Center, BelTA has learned.

"The main findings reached by the observers of the SCO mission are as follows: voters participated in the voting quite actively, the professional level of training of employees of local electoral bodies was high, members of election commissions provided the necessary conditions for the voting procedure and gave exhaustive explanations to voters’ questions," Nurlan Yermekbayev said.

The polling stations had all the documents in accordance with the electoral legislation of Belarus, the head of the SCO observation mission noted. The voting proceeded in a calm fashion, in accordance with the established procedure, in the presence of national and international observers, and representatives of the media. During its work the mission received no complaints or remarks.

"The mission came to the conclusion that the elections were an important step towards the further political development of Belarus. The elections complied with the electoral legislation of Belarus and the international obligations assumed by the country. The mission did not record any violations of the national legislation that could cast doubt on the legitimacy of the elections. The mission recognizes the elections as transparent, credible and democratic,” the head of the SCO mission said.
